Did you know Chicago is the most sustainable city in Illinois? According to a new report cited in the State Journal Register, the city ranks highly for its efforts to promote public transportation, biking, local food, agriculture, renewable energy and alternative power sources. Join us for a behind the scenes look at some of the ways Chicago is promoting sustainability.
Enjoy a tour of Windy City Harvest’s state-of-the-art Farm on Ogden, which is part of Chicago Botanical Garden’s urban agriculture program. It operates with the tagline "Food, Health, Jobs." Their farms, health promotion and employment programs have created sustainable and effective reinvestment in Chicago’s southside and westside communities. Learn about the ways they achieve their remarkable success.
Next visit The Plant, located in the old meat packing district. This is a collaborative community of food businesses working to make Chicago healthier and more efficient by developing and sharing the most innovative methods for sustainable food production, energy conservation and material reuse. It houses more than 20 small businesses, including indoor and outdoor farms, kombucha and beer breweries, a bakery, a cheese distributor, a coffee roaster and other emerging food producers and distributors.

The bus will depart from ISU’s Office of Parking and Transportation lot, 709 N. Main St., Normal.
